In addition to my 35 years as a psychotherapist in private practice, I have extensive experience as a clinician, and as supervisor of other practitioners for agencies, and for therapists in private practice.
My other clinical experience includes positions in an elementary public school setting, an outpatient psychiatric hospital, and as Clinical Director for the East Harlem Consultation Services, a community-based mental health clinic.

Training and Specialization
-
From 1995-2022, I participated in an intensive monthly study group (6 hours per month) led by Dr. David Scharff, co-founder of the International Psychotherapy Institute, a psychoanalytic teaching and training program based in Bethesda, Md. Dr. Scharff has written a score of influential books on family, couples and individual psychoanalytic therapy from an Object Relations perspective.
-
Since 2022, I have continued my studies by taking numerous courses on individual, couples and family psychoanalytic psychotherapy, in addition to my ongoing training in analytic supervision.
-
The Center for Intentional Studies, a four year psychotherapy training institute in Westchester, NY, that combines psychoanalytic disciplines with a mindfulness approach to treatment.
(1986-1991)
-
The National Association for Psychoanalysis, a post-masters training institute in NYC.
(1985-1987)
-
I have received extensive training in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), a short-term, structured treatment program in which people learn how to identify and change destructive or disturbing thought patterns that have a negative influence on feelings and behavior. (2001-2002)
-
For the past 20 years, I have participated in a number of intensive trainings related to mindfulness-based psychotherapies such as Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Dialectic Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Interpersonal Neurobiology. In May 2020, I received a certificate for the completion of the one-year Mindfulness-based Contemplative Psychotherapy course taught by the faculty associated with Nalanda Institute for Contemplative Science, including psychologists, psychiatrists, and contemplative experts involved in these evidenced-based psychotherapies. This comprehensive course involved three-hour weekly classes, plus a few lengthy retreats interspersed throughout the year.
-
Since 2016 I have been participating in 1 or more 5-10 day silent meditation retreats each year, with instruction in mindfulness and contemplative practices.
